Baseball - Mets - Win 10 in row
Published July 18, 2008 Baseball 0 CommentsTags: Baseball, Mets, MLB, Winning Streak
The Mets just won 10 games in a row, and are now first in their division which is the National League East.
The longest winning streak in Major League Baseball:
The 1916 Giants won 14 tied 1 won 12. In baseball, apparently, thats a 26 game winning streak as tied games are replayed but as one individual said, if the stats count, the games count.
The longest true winning streak was 21 games by the 1935 Chicago Cubs.
But those seasons were not 162 games as they are now, so another stat is:
The Oakland A’s got a 20 game win streak in 2002, which became the longest win streak in a 162 game season.
Kind of a cool nug to know.
Baseball - Roger Clemens - Steroids
Published July 16, 2008 Baseball 0 CommentsTags: Baseball, Roger Clemens, Steroids
Roger Clemens has been in the a news a bit in the last year for allegations for steroid use which he denies. There is news out today that there is documentation of shipments of steroids to Clemens house. Check out the article if you want more info.
If the evidence is true, he could be held for perjury for lying to congress under oath. Whoopsy daisy.
For you sports idiots, Clemens was a pitcher for quite a few teams in his career, but his last team he played for was the Yankees. And I guess he is most known for his 12 seasons at a Boston Red Sox.

Many months ago I saw Clemens do an interview on 60 minutes or dateline, one of those. He actually sounded convincing to me that he did not use steroids. Who knows maybe he is good liar.
Baseball - All star game
Published July 16, 2008 Baseball 0 CommentsTags: All star, American League, Baseball, National league, Yankee Stadium
The American League won the All-star game last night at Yankee Stadium. Some teams in the American League are Boston Red Sox and NY Yankees.
I did not realize that this was the last all-star game at the current Yankee Stadium, so they had all these past baseball greats and celebs there. Ooops… I missed it, I didn’t know it was such a big deal, see I am sports idiot. I was watching ‘The Dark Ages’ on the history channel on netflix.
Also, not sure if this is true but in an article I read, the winner of the All-star game gets home field advantage for the world series. So a team in the American League will have home field advantage this world series. Thats cool baseball nug to know.
Guess thats why they play the all-star game mid season.
Baseball - Best Worst - Updated 7/14/08

Tampa Bay Rays as of today do not have the best record anymore. The Chicago Cubs, LA Angels, and Boston Red Sox have better records now. The Rays went on a 7 game losing streak.
Washington Nationals have the worst record.
Baseball - yankees vs rays and Best - Worst
Published July 9, 2008 Baseball 0 CommentsTags: Baseball, Nationals, Tampa Bay Rays, Yankees
Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays today for 2 times in a row. Tampa Bay Rays still have the best record, but the Chicago Cubs and LA Angels are creeping in. The have the second best records. Washington Nationals have the worst record right now.
I never heard of the Nationals before. But after reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Nationals
They used to be the Montreal Expos. There’s a nug for you sports idiots. Drop that on a sports guru who thinks you are a sports idiot, “So the nationals are the worst in the league, and didn’t they used to be the Expos” Boom… no more idiot.
Baseball - Yankees beat Rays
Published July 9, 2008 Baseball 0 CommentsTags: Baseball, Tampa Bay Rays, Yankees
So the Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday. As I blogged, the Rays have the best record right now, so Yankees fans are stoked probably.
My nephew who is a baseball fan was impressed that I knew who had the best record. So I guess this site is working for me so far.
Yankees play the Rays again today at 1pm est
In my other post http://blog.sportsidiot.net/2008/07/01/baseball-best-and-worst/ I mentioned that the Tampa Bay Rays have the best record right now surprisingly, because they have been really bad is past years.
Well they play the NY Yankees tonight and people might be talking about it to see how the Yankees do against the team with the best record.
Baseball - Best and Worst
Published July 1, 2008 Baseball 3 CommentsTags: Baseball, Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays
I said it before but I’ll say it again, dude… I dont like baseball. But knowing who is the best and who stinks right now might be a good nugget of info to know. We are mid season and the team with the best record is the Tampa Bay Rays, and the team with worst record right now is Seattle Mariners.
What will this information nugget get you.. probably nothing but you never know.
Also, in baseball there are about 100,000 games a day (kidding), so that figure above is good for about 2 hours. Dont know why I put this post up but whatever.
***Added: (Semi-interesting nugget to know) I read this morning that Rays have been really bad for a long time. So the fact that they have the best record right now is something semi-interesting.
Also, the Boston Red Sox have the second best record, and they won the World Series last year. (thats a good nugget to know) The Rays beat the Red Sox last night, so the Rays stay in first place.
There is apparently a rivalry between the Red Sox and the Rays. Not sure why there would be a rivalry if the Rays have been bad for so long, and this is the first year they are good. If anybody knows, comment.

NY Yankees beat NY Mets 3-2, they play each other again today at 1pm est.
Trying to find a little stat nug for you to sound like you know whats going on. Only thing that is moderately interesting is that the Mets are trying to break a .500 season which means, more wins than losses so far in the season. Right now Mets are at 39 wins, 41 losses.
Cant believe I just looked at espn for that stat, but at least you have a little nugget of info.

We are in the middle of baseball season. Cant stand baseball, so boring, but I am also from NY. So if I dont mention the subway series between Mets and Yankees, you will certainly be out of touch and sound like and idiot. They play today at 4pm est, and 1pm tomorrow.
