Its too crazy for me to write about every record broken or every notable thing that happens as it happens in the olympics. Its practically an every moment thing.
So I will tell you what I think is notable:
- Gymanstics (Mens Team Final) - U.S. gets bronze
This totally smelled because they had a chance, guy named Horton was crushing everything, just sticking every landing. Then this one guy, who only had to do one event, that all he was waiting for, he gets up and does pommel horse and messes up. Then that rattled the next guy on pommel horse and the silver and gold were out reach. They got bronze, and it was an accomplishment because the U.S. team was rittled with injuries.
- Gymnastics (Womens Team Finals)
U.S. could of had it. China leaves the door open with a mistake and Alicia Sacramone messes up on balance beam. Then she got even more rattled and messed up on floor exercise. So they got silver. China gets gold
- Swimming
There have been tons of records broken so I am not going to list them. If you want to know them, search around. But Michael Phelps is the story, winning hist 11th gold medal for himself in his olympic career, making him the athlete with the most gold medals EVER.
There is more stuff, and I will edit this post later today possibly.
So the athletes started to arrive. And some U.S. cyclists arrived wearing masks to shield themselves from the poor air quality in Beijing. Of course the Chinese were not pleased with it. But seriously, clean up your friggin air quality if you are going to hold the Olympics.
In the article, I agree with one of the athletes when they said that they have been training their whole life for this moment and would not take any chances. Think about that, you train hard for years, work your butt off and then you get to the Olympics and you start coughing and do poorly. Screw that, wear the masks. Sorry Chinese, I know its egg on your face but you had like 8 years to plan for this. Get over it, you are not perfect and your air quality sucks.
Get on the Green train.

Iraq is banned from the Summer Olympics. I still cant figure out why they were actually banned, you can read the article here.

I think its kind of a bummer that they will not be participating. The olympics transgress politics and was hoping for one of those visa moments, where a US athlete helps up a fallen Iraqi athlete or vice versa.
Remember, summer olympics start on Aug 8, well the opening ceremonies do, but they are cool too.
I may be a sports idiot, but I love the olympics.
The below link has a pretty good overview of the schedule, that does not mean everything will be televised though.

Table tennis, I gotta see that this year on TV. And when did trampoline become an olympic sport?
The Espys were on last night. I dont think I have ever actually seen the Espys, but they are like the Oscars for sports.
Tiger Woods won three trophies at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, including his fifth male athlete of the year award, giving him a career-leading 21 wins in the show`s 16-year history.
Woods surpassed retired cyclist Lance Armstrong for most wins as male athlete.
Even after hearing that they were on I could not bring myself to watch the award show, instead I watched Ocean’s 11 on TV with commercials for the 8th time.
How does this fit into sportsidiot, it doesn’t but I am a snowboarder so read it and like it. My bro Live2ride commented on how there is empirical evidence that snowboarders get more girls.

So more world records were broken in swimming. These world records are becoming like shuttle launches. Are people going to start to not care, even though they are really cool.
Caughlin becomes first women to go under 59 seconds in 100m backstroke, breaking her own record set the other day.
Check this link if you are interested in the records broken.

Records broken in Speedo LZR fast suit again.
I have a question to Speedo, if I wear the LZR fast suit and I am talking to my mom on the phone, will she get off the phone faster. Just kidding mom… she reads my blog
Hayley McGregory set the world record for 100m back stroke, then minutes later Natalie Coughlin broke that record set just one heat before her. This is getting crazy.

Somebody commented that there was another record broken yesterday. Katie Hoff broke the womens 400m individual medley world record. I did not see this one.
Phelps and Hoff wear the speedo LZR fast suit. Dude…. this thing is like material doping. Are swimming records going to broken all over the place with this thing?
For those geeks out there like me, the LZR fast uses ultra-sonic welding of the material so no seems. Sweeet….
Tyson Gay becomes fastest man, unofficially. He ran a 9.68 in the 100m. The world record is 9.72. Except it does not count because there was too much wind, so the 9.68 does not officially count towards the world record. Its still pretty cool though.
Michael Phelps breaks world record for 400m - individual medley. 400m individual medley is 100m of each stroke, butterfly, back, breast, freestyle. 2 lengths of pool each stroke.
This guy is someone to watch during the Olympics.
Olympic trials for track - Tyson Gay sets new U.S. 100m record at 9.77 World record is held by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt, 9.72
